Project Results

The results of the 2003 working party can be summarised as follows:

1. the monograph, Commodity Trading in the Czech Republic, was submitted for publication, which includes a brief commentary on Act no. 299/1992 Coll., on commodity exchanges,  for practice;

2. three members of the working party (Seknička, Kouba, Baumruker) took a study trip abroad in October 2003, visiting commodity markets in Vienna, Budapest and Bratislava. The main focus of their studies was the system of state regulation and self regulation; trade in term contracts on commodity exchanges; operation of the exchange transaction settlement/clearance system;

3. a draft ethical codex was drawn up for the Czech Association of Commodity Exchanges – 2 members of the working party (Baumruker, Seknička) took active part in an international conference;

4. two members of the working party (Baumruker, Seknička)  took active part in the international conference, Agricultural Commodity Pricing on Commodity Exchanges in the EU and CZ;

5. members of the working part took active part in lectures as part of the four-month specialised course Commodity Trading, organised by JURIDIKUM – the Institute for the Further Education of Attorneys, Faculty of Law, Charles University in Prague for members of exchange chambers and commodity exchange brokers

6. a specialist seminar was held at the Faculty of Law, Charles University in Prague in June 2003 on the preparation of a concrete concept for the new Commodity Exchange Act;

7. where they visited commodity exchanges in Vienna, Budapest and Bratislava, being primarily interested in the system of state regulation and self regulation and trade in term contracts on the given exchanges.
