Project Results

The aim of this grant project was a critical edition of works of Czech biblical researcher S.C. Daněk (1885 - 1946). S.C. Daněk belongs to the most famous Czech personality of protestant theology between world wars. Although he influenced his coevals and disciples of Czech protestant theologians, his work was never edited completely. And we know too, that it will be difficult to edit all his work at this time.
Our first task was making up bibliography of his works which were edited printed or in other kind of publishing. We think, that now it is almost complete. Bibliography includes 109 titles – articles, lemmas, sermons, monographs and critiques (without translations). It was very difficult to arrange bibliography, because many his works were unofficial. We could take up older bibliography published in 1945 and in 1987.
Second task was to choice the texts, which we could overwrite, and to prepare it to edition. By this it was necessary to acquire specific Daněk`s language and his style of thinking. We decided for printed texts and then we wanted to scan handwritings and saved them in electronic version. This was our idea in relation to triennial duration of this grant. We want to open up Daněk`s works for next research.
We estimate that we were succeed by transcribing almost half of publicized texts into electronic similarity. As technically and time-consuming inconvenience was prove the conversion of Daněk´s Hebrew scripts especially in Principia hebraitatis Veteris Testamenti gramatica, Praha (stenciloprint), edition 1946. We attempted it with the help of scanner, because to generate special font wasn't possible. As well extremely difficult was the transcription of Daněk´s academic dissertation “Posvátné stromy ve Starém zákoně” (”Sacred trees in the Old Testament”) from the year 1917. There is evidently no original of those dissertation, only typescript periphrasis from the year 1951, partly are all texts, don’t use Roman characters, writen into typescript by hand. We decided with reference to future to utilize and technical ailment, that in those work we make nor common transcription nor specific cursive, but we attempted the convertion into in common use Greek and Hebrew type fonts. In a given time frame we didn´t succeed nor transcribe texts editorial nor provide critical apparatus.
Part of results is on the Web-presentation: http://www.etf.cuni.cz/kat-pt/grant/titulni.html, where it is possible find more detailed biography and also list of sources.
Appearances to shortening Grant-project wasn't possible detailed look into manuscript estate, that is in property of prof. Daněk´s family. We suposse that gathering, list and ordination at least of those texts, which us underlie, and their transmission into electronic version, be created good basis for the next editor enterprise.
