Project Results

The main result of the project is elaboration of my doctoral thesis on a mentioned theme, a part of which is a databasis of archaeological objects, analytical and interpretative plans of the excavated areas at the site of Turnov-Maškovy zahrady, north-eastern Bohemia, and plates of figures. Appendices are on CD-ROM too.
The entire area of Turnov excavations amounts 6,5 ha. Among 2075 recorded objects, there were 900 belonging to the Bronze Age, 748 of them identified as house remains. In total, there were 68, resp. 61 ground plans of houses identified, 33 resp. 40 of them dating to the Bronze Age; 12 houses belong to the Neolithic period, 4 probably to the Iron Age (Reinecke HD), 3 to the Age of the Roman Empire and 2 to the Early Middle Ages. All identified house remains correspond with Central European analogies, and they show major questions according to the origin and development of the Jizera facies of the Lusatian culture, and concerning the building tradition of long houses in the Bronze Age. A possibly three-aisled house plan was identified on the Part E as a result of deep analysis,  an unique evidence in Bohemia so far, which can be explained as a northern influence.
A study concerning reconstruction of buildings on monocultural Parts A and B of the site is to be pressed in 2005 as an article among proceedings of VIII. international symposium "The Urnfield and Hallstatt periods", where a contribution on the same theme was presented.
Results of the project are implemented to main lectures of the Institute of Prehistory for the students of archaeology and other historical branches, or other courses (for example, the University of the Third Age).
Some proposed costs of the project were reduced because of shortening of the allocation by 3000,- Kè (i. e. trips abroad and a stay of a visitor from abroad). Final costs were not executed as the thesis will be completed at 2005 only. The means were used for the purchase of SW CorelDraw! and Adobe Photoshop, what was necessary for preparing graphic appendices, new special books (on historical architecture and others). In the approved application I have mentioned the CorelDraw! only, and in the field "b) small tangible assets", but, after instructions of the Economical Department, the SW can be purchased by using means from the item "e) non-productive services" only.  So the amount in question was to be moved from "b" to "e". The development of SW since the application term made possible that we could buy not only a higher version of the CorelDraw! but more the Adobe Photoshop in addition, and thanks to the academical license the total price was 12.965 Kè instead of 25.000 Kè. The saved means could be employed for provising printed plans of higher quality and necessary dating the archaeological wood remains from house constructions by the radiocarbon.
